What Is Grant A Wish

Grant A Wish (GAW) is one of the 7 special projects undertaken by the NUS Students' Community Service Club (CSC) annually and this will be our ninth year organising this event. Since its introduction in 2004, it has been one of CSC's most eminent and popular projects.As the name implies, Grant A Wish aims to fulfill the wishes of underprivileged children who are physically/intellectually challenged and/or from low-income families. These children may lack the opportunities and financial means to obtain gifts which they desire.
The childrens wishes are first collected; the NUS population and the general public are then encouraged to adopt these wishes. After receiving gifts from the donors, Grant A Wish will culminate in parties during which the children will revel in games, performances and receive the much awaited gifts. This project also aims to inculcate a spirit of giving amongst NUS students as well as the general public, and to cultivate compassion towards the less privileged.Our target group is children between 5 and 12 years old. To fulfil the wishes of physically, intellectually disabled and terminally ill children, who may not have the opportunity and financial means to obtain gifts which they desire for.To inculcate a spirit of giving amongst the NUS population as well as the general public and to instil in them a passion to brighten up the days of those who are less fortunate.To raise awareness of the disabled children in the society among the generalpublic to aid their integration into the society.To culminate in a party in December where the children will revel in games and performances and receive their much desired presents and also, to provide an opportunity for volunteers and donors to interact with the children.

Bethesda CCSC

Bethesda Care and Counselling Service Centre (BCCSC) was started in June 1996 by Bethesda (Bedok-Tampines) Church with a vision of reaching out and meeting the needs of the community in the Bedok area. It is a voluntary welfare organization and a member of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).Every year, BCCSC reaches out and touches lives in need of a helping hand through their Welfare Services and a wide range of programmes such as the Integrated Special Student Care Centre; Home Help Services for the elderly; school social work for at-risk youths and counselling services.

The COVENANT FAMILY SERVICE CENTRE was started in August 1987 as a Community Service Project of Paya Lebar Methodist which later became a joint project of the Methodist Welfare Services and Paya Lebar Methodist Church from April 1996.Being a non-profit organization, the centre aims to provide a range of services for families and individuals and is committed to strengthen families and improve their quality of life through quality and holistic services.The centre provides a huge range of services such as helping families facing issues or difficulties such as financial difficulties, providing school-based counseling to some Primary and Secondary Schools located within the Hougang and Seng Kang area, as well as conducting educational programs and workshops for parents and children from disadvantaged and low-income families.

Daybreak Family Service Centre

Daybreak Family Service Centre (Daybreak FSC) which is located in Yishun aims to build strong and resilient families in the community through enriching marriages, promoting parent-child relationships and enhancing family life.The centre provide various services in order to achieve the aims. Some of the services include the Information & Referral service involves the linking up of clients with suitable resources in the community and the Casework & Counselling services which help clients deal with different problems and issues from marriage problems to financial issues to family violence.The other programmes that Daybreak FSC provides include courses and services pertaining to family violence, marriage preparation and enrichment, parenting, and financial issues. The community is educated and equipped with the skills needed to live well and enjoy life through various talks and workshops.

Fei Yue EIPIC

Fei Yue EIPIC A Service of Fei Yue Community Services

How Fei Yue EIPIC beganFei Yue Community Services (FYCS) was appointed by MCYS through an open selection process in November 2005 to set up an Early Intervention Programmes for Infants and Children (EIPIC) centre at Block 101 Jurong East St 13. Prior to the setup of an EIPIC centre, only home-based intervention measures were conducted. With the amenities of a centre, the EIPIC programmes took on a more multi-faceted approach and were able to serve a wider clientele. To date, we have served close to 900 children. Every child is unique and special here in Fei Yue EIPIC. We aim to develop each child to his/ her fullest potential with early intervention. Our Centre adopts the US-based curriculum, the Assessment Evaluation and Programming System, where each child is assessed based on the six domains, namely the cognitive, adaptive, fine motor, gross motor, social and social-communication domains. This approach helps evaluate the learning needs and sets the stage for goal formation and evaluation of children with disabilities. Ultimately, we aim to support as many children and their families into transiting to a mainstream primary school or special school as smoothly as possible. Programmes & services of Fei Yue EIPICScreening - every child would need to be screened before enrolment to ascertain the functioning level of the child. This will enable us to place a child into a suitable class pegged at his/her learning ability.Parents Orientation - The aim of this meeting with parents or caregivers is to let them know what services EIPIC offers. It is also a way to interact and communicate with them our mutual expectations.Integrated Therapy and Education Plan (ITEP) - This plan aims to develop each childs ability so that the child progresses in all the developmental areas. Appropriate goals are set according to his/her ability. There are different phases of intervention throughout the year assessment, direct intervention, progress monitoring and evaluation of goals.Field trips - Outings and trips help children with special needs integrate and adapt better into the society. It also promotes learning out of the classroom setting. Support Group - Facilitated by social worker/s, we aim to support mothers through sharing sessions so that they know they do not have to go through challenges of caregiving alone.

Genesis School

Genesis School for Special Education

Genesis School for Special Education is a private school for children with special learning needs. The primary function of the school is to provide affordable, educational services to children with an IQ range of between 70 to 120 with specific learning disabilities, as well as processing and attention control issues. These children are unable to function or learn in a normal classroom environment where special education resource services are either limited or unavailable.Genesis School specializes in children with language processing disorders, attentional issues and sensory processing disorders. Our main objective is to prepare our students to be prepared to enter mainstream schools successfully and long term.The most important facet of our values and culture is to ensure that each child has a loving and nurturing environment and are loved and affirmed for who they are. We understand that society creates the concept of disability and we provide an environment where our childrens abilities are acknowledged and affirmed and addressed while we are working on the issues that prohibit our children from succeeding in a mainstream setting.

The Spastic Childrens Association of Singapore (SCAS) was established in 1957 to provide early intervention, special education, rehabilitation services, day activity centre programmes, vocational training and gainful employment for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy in Singapore. The vision of SCAS is to be a leading regional centre for persons with Cerebral Palsy, helping them to realise their full potential and to lead a life with respect.

Tampines Family Service Centre

Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) Tampines Family Service Centre (TFSC) is a neighborhood-based social service agency operated by the Methodist Welfare Services, and supported by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).Opened in 1991, TFSC provides a continuous spectrum of services and programmes to meet the needs of the community living in Tampines and Simei. Together with grassroots organizations and other social service organization, TFSC endeavors to mobilize and ensure the availability of resources for the community. Being a non-profit organization, MWS TFSC is committed to journey with families, youth and children by providing integrated social services that enhances life skills in individuals for home, school, work and community life. Some of the services are Enhanced Information and Referral (EIRS) that addresses to any queries on personal, financial, emotional or family-related issues and Counseling services that assisted the clients on a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, emotional issues, family violence, financial assistance, problem gambling, marital issues, parenting issues, child behavior issues and more.

Bengawan Solo

BENGAWAN SOLO

Bengawan Solo Cake Shop started from nothing when Anastasia opened her first outlet in 1979. Like all other cake shops in Singapore at that time, production was carried out in the kitchen at the back of a small shop-house of a block of HDB flats. Eigth years later with five outlets in operation, the little shop-house space was bursting at its seams which then prompted Anastasia to build her first central kitchen on a 9500 square foot piece of private property at Harvey Road in the MacPherson area. Her centralised factory production was featured several times in the local papers as it was the first of its kind in the confectionery industry and was later emulated by others in this business.In November 1997, with now 25 outlets, the company shifted its central kitchen to a 25,000 square foot factory in Woodlands. The investment was then about 6 million dollars and this present factory is expected to meet the expansionary needs of the company for the next few years. We now have a total of 38 retail outlets and more than 409 employees to date.
